How Sisterhood Helps

Helping Hands

Sisterhood's Helping Hands helps support TBO community members by offering meals during illness as well as supplying food for shiva minyanim in people's homes.

  1. JOIN OUR LIST: Please email the Helping Hands team at tbos-helpinghands@googlegroups.com to add your email to the list of volunteers to be notified when there is a need.

2. BRING A MEAL: At your convenience, prepare a kosher style meal in a disposable container, labeled and dated and bring to TBO for our freezer.  Ask the office for directions.

Helpful hints:
•Cook for yourself and a little more and put the extra in a container.
•Make a big lasagna/ziti/ or casserole/ soup/ etc. divide it into smaller serving containers.Don’t want to cook but still want to make a difference?
•Purchase gift cards from the following stores to help with supplies and meal deliveries. Target, Walmart, Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods, Food Lion, Publix and Whole Foods. Just drop them in the main office and let staff know it is for Helping Hands.
•Harris Teeter has a Sunday sale on whole roast chickens. Pick one up and place in our freezer.
•Purchase frozen dinners, or any other meals that can be frozen.
•Make a delivery of one of our prepared meals from TBO to the family’s home. This would be VERY helpful.

College Connection

Do You Have a College Student?

Is your child going to college for the first time or returning after a long summer break? We can help ease their transition to living on their own.

Sisterhood sends care packages three times a year, with some of the comforts of home to TBO members away at college. Care packages are the perfect blend of fun items and essentials — all the things your child would love but wouldn't think to purchase on their own.

Please send your child’s school mailing address to our College Connection team. The first package will arrive at their dorm shortly after school begins in time for Rosh Hashanah.

Healing Transitions

Healing Transitions helps those in our community with alcoholism and other drug addictions, specifically to the homeless, uninsured and the underserved.   More information can be found on their website at https://healing-transitions.org/.  The good news is that this will allow us to accept more of a variety of clothes for women beside those only appropriate for business.

We will be collecting women’s and men’s gently used clothing in addition to toiletries and feminine hygiene products. The clothing donated should be without tears or stains. Gently used kitchen and household items, including sheets and towels are also welcome.

At this time, we cannot collect items at TBO, however, we will be setting up a day and time for drop-offs.   As you clean the closets, please put aside those items that you would like to donate.  Thank you for your support!
